What is the Purple Card?

The Purple Card® is an independent healthcare advocacy and assistance service designed to educate and help members with issues regarding their health coverage and other benefit programs.

What type of assistance does The Purple Card offer?

The Purple Card® provides a variety of services to save our members time, frustration and money spent on navigating healthcare systems. Our Patient Advocates at The Purple Card® educate and assist members with the following:

  • Enrollment & Eligibility
  • Benefit Questions
  • ID Card Replacement
  • Plan Details
  • Provider Search
  • Prescription Assistance
  • Balance Bills
  • Claims Resolution

 

What is a Patient Advocate?

A Patient Advocate is a representative at The Purple Card® who personally assists members with questions or concerns about their health coverage and claims. The Patient Advocate serves as a liaison between Purple Card members and healthcare providers or insurance carriers. Our Patient Advocates at The Purple Card® are licensed and highly trained to resolve issues on the member’s behalf.

How do I receive assistance from The Purple Card? (Or, how do I reach The Purple Card)

To receive assistance from The Purple Card, you must be a Purple Card member. If you are not a member and would like to become one, please fill out a membership form.

When is The Purple Card available for assistance?

The Purple Card® is available Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. However, members can submit an online inquiry, or email purplecard@thepurplecard.com.

Is my personal health information secure with The Purple Card?

The Purple Card® is fully compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to protect the privacy of The Purple Card® members. Each member is required to sign arelease form giving The Purple Card® Patient Advocates permission to speak to healthcare providers and carriers on the patient’s behalf.

How much do I have to pay for The Purple Card services?

If your employer is a client of Brinson Benefits, Inc., your membership is covered under your employer-sponsored health plan.

If you are interested in The Purple Card® services, you may register for membership, or you may fill out a recommendation form for your employer to add The Purple Card® to your health plan.

Does The Purple Card® process healthcare claims?

The Purple Card® does not actually process or pay any claims. We use our relationship with the insurance carrier to get issues resolved swiftly, and we work with providers to make sure members are billed appropriately.
